"The Game" is pretty nice. Chico DeBarge writes his own lyrics and plays his own instruments, which is admirable. The title track could lose the curse words, but I totally dig that song. This album is original Chico DeBarge, no carbon copy of anyone else. You've got the mainstream hits "Fa Sure" and "Listen" (yes, the one with the Timbaland beat f/ Joe). I call "Listen" the "No Guarantee Part II" because of the Joe appearance. Some people may have complained about the beats, but there's only two like that. The rest is just sweet. There's the Antonio Jobim vibe of "Everybody Knew" to the latin "Your Way" (one of my top 10 favorite songs of all-time). The second verse on "Everybody Knew" is kinda inappropriate, but the bridge makes up for that. And then you've got the gospel-tinged "Talk About You", the organ-ridden "The Edge", and El DeBarge's touching "Heart, Mind, & Soul." Track 6 (whose name I won't mention) is really good also, but I wish its theme wasn't about cheating with someone else's girlfriend. All in all, your cd/cassette collection should not be missing this album.
